Many of you will know Duncan Thomas as a manager of our U15's, what you may not know is that he supports the Great Football Giveaway Charity...
The following provides an update on what Duncan is planning next!
what am I up to?........ many of you will remember (and have generously supported) my trips to Uganda in 2008 & Tanzania in 2010; I’m now a Trustee of The Great Football Giveaway (Registered Charity no. 1113148) and in only 4 weeks’ time, I’m off to Malawi for a couple of weeks distributing approx. 3,000 footballs and netballs (incl. pumps & valves) to some of the world’s most disadvantaged children.
why
Malawi?........Malawi is amongst the
world’s least developed countries and poverty and HIV/AIDS has touched a whole
generation; anything we can do to put a smile on these kid’s faces has got to be
worth the effort. So as with previous
projects, we will be going well off the tourist trail to find that poorer rural
school with no sports facilities, the orphanage or community project doing
everything it can to survive or that boy or girl by the side of the road or in a
remote village just kicking a rag-ball around!
how can you
help/support?.......if the idea of ‘the
beautiful game’ stripped of all the hype, marketing and money and being used as
a force for good is something that appeals to you, then why not do something
really beautiful and give a ball – I can guarantee it will bring a smile to
somebody’s face.
my promise/s to
you…….
- all of the money raised will go directly to the cost of the purchase and the distribution of the balls (i.e. I will be paying my own way in terms of flights, vaccinations, subsistence etc.)
- I will take and send you (and/or your children) a picture of where (and who with) your donated ball ends up
finally, to see the difference a ball can make, please take 3 mins to watch this short video.
