Fund Raising for Cardiac Screening for Young People in Gloucestershire

The University of Gloucestershire and The Citizen have joined forces to raise funds for vital cardiac screening for young people in the county.

The screening will be taking place at the University's Oxstalls Campus in Gloucester on April 8th and 9th, 2014 where there will also be a two-day celebration of sport and physical activityto take part in, watch or learn! There will also be first aid and defibrillator training available for parents, coaches, team managers and any member of the community who wishes to be trained in these lifesaving skills.

They need to raise £7,000 so that 200 people aged between 14-35 can take advantage of the screening for free. This screening is important because it can detect any potential heart issues which could, if undetected, be fatal.

A few members of staff from the Faculty of Applied Sciences (including Britta a parent of one of the LRFC Cougars U14's players) are training hard and running the Forest of Dean Spring Half Marathon on 30th March to support the Stop the Heartbreak campaign. They are a mixed ability group taking part to raise awareness and funds for this cause.

Also put a note in your diary top go across to Oxstalls on the weekend and see what is happening and get involved!
